How to play

How to Play the Roulette Simulator

If you’ve never played, start with one bet so you can follow what happens to your balance. It takes three taps.

  1. Pick a chip

Chips come in 1, 5, 10, 25 and 100. Each tap on the table adds one chip, so two taps with the 5 puts 10 down.

  2. Place your bets

Tap a number for a straight bet, or a box like Red or 2nd 12. For a split, tap the line between two numbers. For a corner, tap where four meet. The outer edge of a row gives you a street.

  3. Spin

Watch the ball drop. Your winnings land in your balance straight away, and Spin again puts the same bets back down and spins.

Undo

Takes back your last chip, or your last Clear, Double or call bet.

Clear

Takes everything off the table and back into your balance.

Double

Doubles every bet on the table, if you’ve got the credits.

Repeat

Puts last spin’s bets back on the table without spinning.

Call bets in one tapThe Voisins, Tiers, Orphelins and Jeu Zéro buttons under the table place the classic French section bets for you, using the chip you’ve picked. Voisins takes 9 chips, Tiers 6, Orphelins 5 and Jeu Zéro 4. See where they all go in our wheel sections guide.

Payouts

Roulette Payouts in the Simulator

Standard European payouts. The “5 credits returns” column is what comes back from a winning 5-credit bet, including your stake.

Bets to try

Three Bets to Try First

Play each one on its own for a few spins and you’ll soon feel how coverage and payouts trade off.

5 on red

Pick the 5 chip and tap the red diamond once.

Red lands: 10 back, 5 up.

Black or 0 lands: 5 lost.

Red covers 18 of the 37 pockets. The green zero is why it isn’t a true 50/50.

5 on number 17

Tap 17 once with the 5 chip.

17 lands: 180 back, 175 up.

Anything else: 5 lost.

One pocket out of 37. A big payout, but you’ll see a lot of misses before it lands.

5 on two dozens

Tap 1st 12 and 2nd 12 once each, 10 on the table.

1 to 24 lands: 15 back, 5 up.

25 to 36 or 0: 10 lost.

You win nearly two spins in three, but each loss costs twice what a win pays.

The stats panel

Hot and Cold Numbers: What the Stats Tell You

The Stats tab under the game tracks your session: red against black, odd against even, high against low, which numbers are “hot” and which haven’t shown up for a while.

What it’s good for

Seeing how streaky roulette really is. Twenty spins can easily come out 14 red and 6 black, and it doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the wheel. Play a few hundred spins and the percentages drift back towards 48.6% red, 48.6% black and 2.7% zero.

It’s also a quick way to check how a bet did over your whole session, not just the last spin.

What it can’t do

Predict the next number. The wheel has no memory, so a “cold” number isn’t due and a “hot” one isn’t more likely. Every number has the same 1 in 37 chance on every spin.

Believing otherwise has a name: the gambler’s fallacy. The stats panel is here to show you what happened, not what happens next.

Betting systems

Practising a Betting System

The simulator doesn’t play a system for you, but it’s a safe place to follow one by hand and see what a losing run feels like.

Try the Martingale on red

Start with 5 on red and double after every loss:

  • 5
  • 10
  • 20
  • 40
  • 80
  • 160
  • 320
  • 640

Seven losses in a row costs 635, and the next bet of 640 is more than the 365 you’ve got left. Seven in a row sounds unlikely, but play 100 spins on red and there’s about a 36% chance it happens somewhere in them.

Other systems to compare

The Martingale doubles after a loss. The Fibonacci and D’Alembert raise the stake more slowly, so losing runs hurt less but wins recover less too.

None of them change the odds. Every bet here carries the same 2.70% house edge, whatever you staked on the spin before. Our roulette strategy guide compares them all.

Settings

Sound, Speed and Playing on Your Phone

Sound and speed

You’ll hear the ball roll, clatter over the diamonds and click into its pocket, plus chips and a win chime. Sound starts with your first tap, and the speaker button turns it off.

The settings button switches between a normal spin of about six seconds and a quick one of about two. Payouts are the same either way.

On a phone

The table turns upright so every number is easy to tap, and the chips and Spin button stay at the bottom of the screen while you scroll. When you spin, the page brings the wheel into view so you can watch the ball.

On a computer, the full screen button makes the game fill your monitor.

Fair play

How the Simulator Works

The wheel

It’s a standard European wheel: 37 pockets, 18 red, 18 black and one green 0, in the same order as a real casino wheel. The payouts are standard too, with no La Partage or En Prison, so the house edge is 1 in 37, or 2.70%.

The random numbers

Each result comes from your browser’s secure random number generator before the ball is launched. The animation then plays out to that number, so watching the ball won’t help you predict anything.

Short sessions can land well above or below the long-run average. That’s normal, and it’s exactly what the simulator is good at showing you.

Roulette Simulator FAQs

Is this roulette simulator free?

Yes. You get 1,000 practice credits with no sign-up, deposit or download. The credits have no cash value and can’t be withdrawn.

Is it European or American roulette?

European: one green zero and 37 pockets, with the standard payouts. There’s no double zero, and La Partage and En Prison don’t apply, so zero is a full loss on outside bets.

How are the results decided?

Your browser picks each number at random, using its built-in secure random number generator, before the wheel starts turning. The animation then plays out to that number. Every pocket has the same 1 in 37 chance on every spin, whatever came before.

Can I place splits and corners?

Yes. Tap the line between two numbers for a split, the cross where four numbers meet for a corner, and the outer edge of a row for a street or six line. On a computer, the numbers you’d cover light up as you hover. The Voisins, Tiers, Orphelins and Jeu Zéro buttons place the classic call bets for you.

How do I start again?

Open the settings button at the top of the game and choose “Start again with 1,000”. Reloading the page does the same, as your balance isn’t saved between visits.

Why does my balance go down before I spin?

Chips move from your balance to the table as you place them. Undo or Clear puts them back before the spin.

Why is there no sound?

Browsers only allow sound after you’ve tapped something on the page, so it starts with your first chip or spin. Check the speaker button in the game is on, your volume is up, and the tab isn’t muted. On an iPhone, the silent switch also mutes it.

Can the same number come up twice in a row?

Yes. Each spin is independent, so repeats and long runs of one colour happen. A number that has just landed still has a 1 in 37 chance on the next spin.

Is there a maximum bet?

You can have up to 100,000 practice credits on the table per spin, and never more than your balance. It’s the simulator’s limit, not a real casino’s.

Is this The Online Casino’s game?

No. The simulator is RouletteUK’s own. The “Play for real money” button is an affiliate link to The Online Casino and opens in a new tab. Practice credits don’t carry over.
