36 Roulette Strategy: How the 38-Unit System Works
The 36 Roulette Strategy uses four bets to activate every pocket on a European wheel: 1 unit on zero, 13 units on the first dozen, 3 units on the 13-18 six-line and 21 units on High, 19-36.
The name refers to this betting layout, not a straight-up bet on number 36 or a 36:1 payout. With a £10 unit the spin costs £380. Thirty pockets produce a positive net result, while zero and 13-18 produce a loss.
The Exact 38-Unit Layout
The system is normally shown on a standard European Roulette table. The pound amounts are optional. What matters is preserving the 1, 13, 3 and 21-unit ratio across the four positions.

Coverage is not the same as profit. At least one component bet returns on every European result, but seven pockets still return less than the complete 38-unit stake.

Every European Outcome, Gross Return and Net Result
The gross return is the amount sent back from the winning component, including that component’s original stake. The net result compares the gross return with all 38 units placed on the complete layout.

Thirty of 37 pockets produce a positive net result, which is 81.08%. That figure describes how the results are distributed. It does not mean the system has an 81.08% long-run advantage.
Expected result on a standard European wheel
Across a theoretical set containing every European pocket once, the twelve +1 results and eighteen +4 results produce 84 units. Zero and the six 13-18 results lose 122 units. The final difference is -38 units across 1,406 units of turnover.
Why the 13-18 Result Drives the Swings
The six-line wins on six pockets, but its 3-unit stake returns only 18 units against a complete 38-unit layout. The net result is therefore -20 units whenever 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18 lands.
One -20-unit result equals twenty later +1-unit dozen results or five later +4-unit High results. Those positive results do not have to be consecutive, but any further zero or six-line loss increases the amount still to recover.
The chance of 13-18 appearing at least once rises quickly as more spins are played. This table measures the appearance of that result, not the chance that the complete session finishes behind.

The calculator treats the chosen unit as the amount placed on zero. It does not check a casino’s chip increments, separate inside and outside minimums, or total table maximum.
How La Partage Changes the Zero Result
French Roulette can offer La Partage on qualifying even-money wagers. In this layout, only the 21-unit High bet receives that protection. The zero straight-up, dozen and six-line are settled normally.
Standard European zero
The zero bet returns 36 units. The other 37 units lose, leaving the complete layout 2 units down.
Zero with La Partage
The zero bet returns 36 units and half of the 21-unit High stake is returned. Gross return becomes 46.5 units, leaving the layout 8.5 units ahead.
La Partage improves this particular mix because more than half of the total stake sits on High. It does not turn the whole layout into a 1.35% game, and it does not change the -20-unit result on 13-18.
European, French and American Outcomes
The same four betting positions can be placed on different wheels, but zero rules and double zero change the result distribution.

The American version is mechanically possible, but 00 activates no winning component and loses the complete layout. The standard European result on zero remains -2 units.
The High Layout and Its Low Mirror
The four bets cannot be moved at random while preserving the same result distribution. There are two clean mirror versions.

The Low mirror swaps the twelve +1-unit pockets and eighteen +4-unit pockets to the opposite end of the table. Zero remains -2 units and the six-number middle zone remains -20 units.
How It Differs From Other Coverage Systems
Coverage systems can use the same wheel while producing very different net outcomes. Comparing units and result types is more useful than calling one layout safer.

Does the 36 Roulette Strategy Work?
It works as a fixed set of four wagers. It correctly produces a positive net result on 30 European pockets and a payout from at least one component on all 37. It does not create positive expectation because the losses on zero and 13-18 outweigh the more frequent smaller gains.

What it does not change
- The probability of the next spin.
- The standard wheel’s house edge.
- The risk of repeated 13-18 results.

A larger balance funds more 38-unit spins, but it does not make any outcome less likely. The sensible comparison is between the exact table requirements and a fixed spending limit, not an invented bankroll amount described as safe.
How We Checked the Maths
The main calculation uses a 37-pocket European wheel and standard gross returns: 36 times stake for straight-up, 3 times stake for a dozen, 6 times stake for a six-line and 2 times stake for High. The complete layout is 38 units.
European expected result weights -2 units on zero, +1 unit on twelve dozen pockets, -20 units on six six-line pockets and +4 units on eighteen High pockets. The sum is -38 units across 37 equally likely results, or -38/37 units per spin.
The repeated-spin table uses 1 – (31/37)n to measure the chance that at least one 13-18 result appears within n spins. It does not estimate the final session result.
La Partage is applied only to the 21-unit High component on zero. American Roulette adds one 00 result that loses the complete 38-unit layout. RTP and house edge are long-run averages rather than a promised result from one session. Read the UK Gambling Commission RTP guide.

Why is it called the 36 Roulette Strategy?
The name is used for this four-bet coverage layout. It does not mean betting only on number 36, and it does not describe a 36:1 net payout. The layout itself contains 38 stake units.
Does every European spin win?
At least one component bet returns on every European pocket, but that is not the same as a net win. Zero returns 2 units less than the full stake and 13-18 returns 20 units less.
Is 81.08% the strategy’s win rate?
It is the frequency of a positive net result on one European spin: 30 positive pockets from 37. The remaining seven outcomes are large enough to preserve the standard 2.70% house edge.
Can the system be played for less than £380?
Yes, where the table accepts the required chip values. The layout is 38 units, so a £1 unit costs £38, a 50p unit costs £19 and a £5 unit costs £190.
Why does 13-18 lose 20 units?
The 3-unit six-line stake returns 18 units in total when it wins. The complete layout costs 38 units, so the net result is 18 minus 38, which is -20 units.
What does La Partage do to this layout?
If the rule applies to High, half of that 21-unit stake is returned when zero lands. The zero result changes from -2 units to +8.5 units and the effective edge on the complete layout falls to approximately 1.96%.
Can the 36 Strategy be used on American Roulette?
The four normal bets can be placed, but 00 activates no winning component and loses all 38 units. The expected loss becomes 5.26% of the complete stake.
Can I move the dozen, six-line and outside bet?
Use the exact High layout or its Low mirror if you want the same result distribution. Moving one component independently can create overlaps or gaps and changes the maths.
