The Hollandish Roulette System — Full UK Guide (Simple Steps)
The Hollandish roulette strategy is a calmer alternative to the Martingale.
It uses mini-sessions of three spins to spread the risk and aims to recover slowly, not aggressively.
You increase your stake only after each block of three spins — not every loss — making it one of the more balanced
negative progressions for even-money bets like Red/Black or Odd/Even.

What Is the Hollandish System?
The Hollandish system is a gentle recovery strategy built around mini-sessions of three spins, called blocks.
You start small, play three spins, then check if that block finished ahead or behind.
If you’re behind after three spins, you raise your stake slightly for the next block.
If you’re ahead, you drop back to your starting stake.
The aim isn’t to win big in one spin — it’s to grind forward gradually, controlling losses while waiting for a
winning streak. The typical sequence of bet sizes might look like: 1 – 3 – 5 – 5 – 7 – 9.
That slower pacing is what makes the Hollandish safer than Martingale-style doubling.
How to Play the Hollandish System
- Pick an even-money bet (e.g. Red, Black, Odd, Even, 1–18, 19–36).
- Decide your base unit (for example, £1) and your bankroll.
- Start a mini-session (“block”) of three spins at your base bet.
-
After three spins:
- If you win two or more → block is a win → stay at the same bet level.
- If you win one or fewer → block is a loss → move up to the next bet level.
- Repeat until you’re back in profit, then restart from your base unit.
Example of a Hollandish Session
- Start: £1 base unit.
- Block 1: three spins at £1 → 2 wins, 1 loss → small profit → stay at £1.
- Block 2: three spins at £1 → 1 win, 2 losses → block lost → move up to £3.
- Block 3: three spins at £3 → 2 wins, 1 loss → recover → drop back to £1.
Notice how the bet only changes between blocks, not every spin.
The yellow arrow marks your base unit for the Hollandish system.
How to Use This (Hollandish Blocks)
- Play 3-spin blocks on a single even-money bet (e.g., Red / Black / Odd / Even).
- If the block finishes ahead (2+ wins), stay at the same stake for the next block.
- If the block finishes behind (≤1 win), increase the stake for the next block.
- Example with €5 base: Block 1 → €5 per spin • Block 2 → €15 per spin • Block 3 → €25 per spin (only raise between blocks).
Best on European (single-zero) wheels. Keep sessions short and use firm stop-loss/stop-win limits.
Why Players Like the Hollandish Strategy
- It spreads risk across groups of spins, not individual losses.
- You avoid the runaway doubling that kills the Martingale bankroll.
- It’s easier to manage during long live sessions — no panic adjustments every spin.
You can still face long losing streaks that push stakes higher than expected.
Keep a stop-loss limit and stick to it.
Hollandish Bet Progression Example
| Level | Stake per Spin | When to Use |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 unit | Starting level; use until you lose a 3-spin block |
| 2 | 3 units | After losing one 3-spin block |
| 3 | 5 units | If the next block also loses |
| 4 | 5 units | Stay level if the block breaks even |
| 5 | 7 units | Use only if several blocks have lost |
| 6 | 9 units | High-risk recovery level; stop if still down |
Each “unit” can be any chip size. The sequence can be scaled (e.g. 2–6–10–10–14–18).
Pros
- Less aggressive than Martingale — slower bet increases.
- Gives time for streaks to balance out.
- Easy to follow in 3-spin chunks.
Cons
- Still a negative progression — the edge never disappears.
- Long streaks of bad blocks can still eat your bankroll.
- Progression resets can be slow and require patience.

Practise the 3-spin block method on Free Roulette first, then move to real-money tables once you’re comfortable.
Keep the focus on pacing, not chasing — the Hollandish rewards steady play.

Hollandish Strategy — FAQs
What makes the Hollandish system different from Martingale?
Martingale doubles after every loss. Hollandish only increases your stake after each 3-spin block, so it’s much gentler on your bankroll.
What’s a “block” in this system?
Each block is a group of three spins. You track wins and losses within that group, then adjust before the next one.
How do I know when to move up a level?
If your balance is lower than it was before the last block, move up one step. If you’re ahead, stay or reset to your base bet.
Is this a safe strategy?
Safer than Martingale, but not risk-free. You can still hit bad streaks — always use stop-loss limits and short sessions.
