Romanovsky Strategy (Roulette Guide for UK Players)
The Romanovsky Strategy is an 8-chip table coverage system attributed to player Igor Romanovsky.
It targets two dozens and two corner bets so most spins return a small win, while a tiny set of numbers causes a full-spin loss.
It’s fast to place, disciplined to run, and best on single-zero European roulette.

What the Romanovsky Strategy Covers (and Why)
The standard Romanovsky layout uses 8 chips to cover 32 numbers on a European wheel:
- 3 chips on the 1st Dozen (1–12)
- 3 chips on the 2nd Dozen (13–24)
- 1 chip on the corner 25/26/28/29
- 1 chip on the corner 32/33/35/36
This covers all of 1–24 via the dozens (24 numbers) plus two third-dozen corners (8 numbers) = 32/37 numbers covered.
The 5 uncovered numbers are 0, 27, 30, 31, 34.
If one of the five uncovered numbers hits, you lose all 8 units for that spin.
Step-by-Step: How to Place the Romanovsky Bet
- Choose chip size (e.g., £1 per chip → £8 total per spin).
- Place 3 chips on 1st Dozen and 3 chips on 2nd Dozen.
- Add 1 chip to corner 25/26/28/29 and 1 chip to corner 32/33/35/36.
- Spin & repeat for short sessions (e.g., 20–50 spins). Track results; stop after fixed profit or loss limits.
| Outcome | Probability (EU) | Return | Stake | Net |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Any number in 1st or 2nd Dozen (1–24) | 24/37 = 64.86% | Dozen pays 2:1 → 3× returns 9 | 8 | +1 |
| Any number in selected corners (25/26/28/29 or 32/33/35/36) | 8/37 = 21.62% | Corner pays 8:1 → 1× returns 9 | 8 | +1 |
| Uncovered numbers (0, 27, 30, 31, 34) | 5/37 = 13.51% | — | 8 | −8 |
Because all roulette bets hold the same house edge, the expected loss equals about 2.70% of total stake per spin on a European wheel.
With 8 units staked, EV ≈ −8/37 ≈ −0.216 units per spin.
Romanovsky Session Tracker (fill as you play)
| Spin | Result Number | Category | Net (units) | Running Total | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dozen / Corner / Uncovered | +1 / +1 / −8 | |||
| 2 | Dozen / Corner / Uncovered | +1 / +1 / −8 | |||
| 3 | Dozen / Corner / Uncovered | +1 / +1 / −8 |
Set a stop-win (e.g., +10 units) and stop-loss (e.g., −20 units) before you begin.
Worked Results: 50-Spin and 100-Spin Sessions
Example A — 50 spins @ £1 chips (stake £8/spin)
- Expected hits (Dozens+Corners): ~32/37 × 50 ≈ 43 wins → +43 units
- Expected misses (Uncovered): ~5/37 × 50 ≈ 7 losses → −56 units
- Expected net: 43 − 56 = −13 units (≈ −£13)
Short-term variance can beat this; long sessions trend toward EV.
Example B — 100 spins @ £2 chips (stake £16/spin)
- Expected wins: ~86 → +86 units
- Expected losses: ~14 → −112 units
- Expected net: 86 − 112 = −26 units (each unit £2 → ≈ −£52)
Higher chip value scales both upswings and downswings.
Bankroll swings feel smooth until an uncovered number lands — plan for it.
Romanovsky Variants (same idea, different corners)
Keep the two dozens (3+3). Swap the corners to move the uncovered “danger” numbers:
Variant 1 (shown above)
- Corners: 25/26/28/29 & 32/33/35/36
- Uncovered: 0, 27, 30, 31, 34
Variant 2
- Corners: 19/20/22/23 & 28/29/31/32
- Uncovered: 0, 21, 24, 30, 33
Variant 3
- Corners: 20/21/23/24 & 29/30/32/33
- Uncovered: 0, 19, 22, 31, 34
Each variant keeps the same 32/37 coverage and +1/−8 net profile; only the “danger five” change.
Bankroll & Table Limits
Suggested bankrolls
- £100 (chips £1): 20–40 spins; lightweight test runs
- £250 (chips £1–£2): 40–60 spins; steadier sessions
- £500+ (chips £2): 60–100 spins; more cushion vs uncovered hits
Limits & tips
- Stick to European/French single-zero wheels (lower house edge).
- Set stop-loss (~3–5 uncovered hits) and a modest take-profit (+10 to +20 units).
- Don’t scale chip size mid-session to chase losses.
Pros & Cons
- Simple 8-chip routine; fast to place
- Frequent small wins keep variance low
- Clear, disciplined session structure
- Uncovered hits (0 or 4 others) wipe the whole spin (−8)
- House edge (≈2.70%) still applies
- Long sessions drift toward expected loss
Romanovsky vs Other Systems
| Aspect | Romanovsky | Martingale | Labouchere | d’Alembert |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bet structure | 2 dozens + 2 corners (8 chips) | One even-money bet; doubles on loss | Sequence; add on loss, cross off on win | +1 on loss / −1 on win |
| Volatility | Low (many small wins) | High (rapid bet escalation) | Medium (sequence can swell) | Low-medium |
| Typical net per hit | +1 unit | +1 unit after recovery | Varies; aims to clear target sequence | +1/−1 adjustments |
| Risk of ruin | Clustered uncovered hits | Table/bankroll limit during streaks | Long losing sequences | Slow bleed in bad runs |
Common Mistakes
- Playing American (00) wheels: Higher house edge (5.26%) worsens outcomes.
- Endless sessions: The more you play, the more likely uncovered hits erase small gains.
- Moving corners mid-session: Stick with one variant; constant tinkering confuses tracking.
- No limits: Always set stop-loss and take-profit before you begin.

Romanovsky Strategy – FAQs
What exactly do the yellow circles in the image show?
They mark the two dozen boxes (1–12 and 13–24) plus the two four-number corners in the third dozen (25/26/28/29 and 32/33/35/36).
Why does each winning spin only net +1 unit?
Because your total stake is 8 units and any winning sub-bet returns 9 units (stake+win). 9 − 8 = +1. Uncovered numbers lose the entire 8.
Is Romanovsky profitable long-term?
No. Like all roulette strategies, expected value is negative by the house edge (~2.70% per spin on European wheels).
Which wheels are best?
European or French (ideally with La Partage) for the lowest edge.
Can I change the corners?
Yes. Use one of the variants above. You’ll still cover 32 numbers with the same +1/−8 profile; only the five danger numbers change.
